Revenue seizes alcohol worth over €15,400 in Dublin Port

On Friday (10/02/2017), Revenue officers in Dublin Port stopped and searched a Latvian registered truck which arrived from Rotterdam, and discovered over 480 litres of contraband alcohol hidden in a consignment of food in the refrigerated trailer.

Revenue seized 298.80 litres of vodka, 108 litres of liqueurs and 74.50 litres of wine. The vodka and liqueurs were Ukrainian brands ‘Hlebniy Dar’ and ‘Nemiroff’. The wine was Moldovan, branded ‘Salcut’ and ‘Imperial Vin’. The smuggled alcohol has a retail value of around €15,400 and represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €9,300. Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of alcohol in the shadow economy. The majority of people pay the right amount of tax and duty.
