Revenue seizes alcohol and tobacco products in Dublin Port

This morning (11/04/17), Revenue officers seized contraband alcohol and tobacco products when they searched a van that arrived in Dublin Port from Holyhead. Assisted by detector dog Bill, officers discovered 23 litres of wine, 12 litres of liquor, 660 cigarettes branded 'Marlboro' and 'Vogue' and 3kg of tobacco branded 'L and M' and 'Marlboro'. The smuggled goods have a retail value of more than €2,400, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €1,850.

The smuggled alcohol and tobacco products were hidden in the van which had travelled to Dublin from Bulgaria via Holyhead. Two Bulgarian men, aged in their 40's, were questioned and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

These seizures are part of Revenue's on going operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of alcohol and tobacco products in the shadow economy. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal alcohol or tobacco products, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
