Revenue seizes cigarettes, alcohol and a car in Kerry
On Friday evening (26/02/16), Revenue officers seized 21,900 cigarettes and 12 litres of wine in Tralee, Co. Kerry. A quantity of the cigarettes, branded ‘L&M’, ‘MG’ and ‘777’, were discovered when a car was stopped and searched as part of an ongoing operation into the sale and distribution of unstamped tobacco products in Co. Kerry. The car was also seized as it had been used to transport the contraband.
A follow up search of a private residence uncovered more cigarettes. The combined value of the seized product is in excess of €11,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €9,100.
A Croatian man in his 40's has been questioned in connection with this seizure. Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
