Revenue seizes drugs and cigarettes at Dublin Airport
A man and a woman both in their late 50s have been remanded in custody following court appearances on Thursday (24/03/2016) on drugs charges. The Spanish nationals were stopped and questioned by Revenue officers when they arrived in Dublin airport last Tuesday on a flight from Seville. Both had ingested pellets of cannabis resin with a total estimated street value of €14,000.
On Wednesday (23/03/2016) Revenue officers seized more than 38,000 contraband cigarettes in the Cargo Terminal of Dublin Airport. The Russian stamped cigarettes, branded "Winston", were detected in a consignment which was manifested as "Accessories" and originated in Poland.
This seizure represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €19,000.
Investigations are on-going.
