Revenue officers seize cigarettes, tobacco and a car in Tipperary
Revenue officers stopped and searched a car in Golden, County Tipperary yesterday morning (10/02/2016), uncovering a quantity of contraband cigarettes. They followed up with a search, under warrant, of the drivers residence, where they found more illicit cigarettes and tobacco.
A total of 22,800 cigarettes, branded 'Royal Classic', 'Jim', 'MG', 'NZ Gold', 'Che', 'Marlboro' and 'Monte Carlo' were seized along with 200 grams of tobacco, branded 'Amber Leaf' and 'Cherry Choice'. The vehicle, in which a quantity of the contraband was discovered, was also seized.
The combined value of the seized tobacco product is approximately €10,700, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €9,100.
A man in his 50s was questioned and a file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
