Revenue seizes, cars, cigarettes and tobacco in Cork

Today (07/09/16), on the north side of Cork city, Revenue officers seized in excess of 12,700 cigarettes, 16kg of unstamped tobacco and two cars which had been used to transport the contraband. The cigarettes, branded "Minsk", "Marlboro Gold", "Mg", "Dorchester" and "John Player Blue", and the tobacco branded, "Golden Virginia" and "Amber Leaf", were discovered following the search of a business premises and two houses as part of the intelligence-led "Operation Carzone". A man in his 40s and woman in her 60s, both Irish, were questioned and a file is being prepared for the DPP. Local members of An Garda Síochána assisted with the operation.

The combined value of the seized product is €14,000, representing a loss to the Exchequer of approximately €11,100.
